A few years ago, I used to get sick all the time. Nothing serious, just constant colds. Every couple of months I had a sore throat or a runny nose. My coworkers even joked that I always had tissues on my desk. It became normal for me to cancel plans because I didn’t feel well. I just assumed that was how my body worked.
Last year I decided to change a few things. I started going to bed earlier. I stopped skipping lunch. I also began walking home instead of taking the bus, just to move a little more during the day. At first, I didn’t notice anything different. I still caught a cold in the winter.
But now it happens less. This year I’ve only been sick once, and it was mild. I don’t carry tissues in my pocket anymore. I don’t think about it much, but sometimes I realize I’ve gone months without feeling bad. It’s not that I’m never sick. It just isn’t as common as before. And honestly, that already feels like a big change.
